2015 WEST COAST BREEDERS SELECT SALE
… High Roller Reining Classic to Offer Quality Quarter Horse and Arabian Reining Prospects
One of the most exciting additions to the High Roller Reining Classic last year was the West Coast Breeders Select Sale, a venue that featured 45 outstanding Quarter Horse yearlings put forward by 22 noted western consignors. High selling lot was a 2013 sorrel colt named Prime Minister Dunit, sired by Pale Face Dunit, a big, colorful youngster that brought a solid $40,000. The sale average was a respectable $13,034, a stellar accomplishment for an inaugural sale. This year’s big news is that the auction will also feature Arabian and Half-Arabian reining prospects in the mix.
“The Las Vegas venue is perfect for a reining prospect auction,” says Amanda Brumley, Brumley Management Group, LLC. “The NRHA trainers were here during last year’s show and watched the Arabian and Half-Arabian classes, discussing and evaluating horses. There was real interest and a lot of questions. ‘Where do I get one of those? What are these folks doing to breed a good Arabian or Half-Arabian for reining?’ I had an NRHA Million Dollar Rider spend a half hour asking me numerous questions about the Arabian horses. I knew then we should add these horses to the 2015 auction.”
A true “Select” sale, the WCBSS offers the finest young horses available within the reining industry. All horses are required to submit radiographs and 5 Panel Test reports. All radiographs are reviewed by a licensed veterinarian prior to the sale. Horses with major defects, whether caused by injury, birth or other issues, will be removed from the sale regardless of pedigree. Producers and supporters of this sale understand the rarity of truly select reining prospects and consequently, focus on quality not quantity. “If the sale offers only 6, 12 or 24 prospects, that’s fine with me,” says Amanda Brumley. “There are sales that call themselves ‘Select’ and auction hundreds of horses with growth defects or injuries with no regard for the impact on the reputation of the Reining horse industry. The WCBSS stands firm in its commitment to the reining horse and its future by screening consignments for defects prior to the sale. We also have a strict NO DOPING rule written into the Terms and Conditions of the sale which allows us to drug test sale consignments at any time. This is how a ‘Select’ prospect sale should be!”
The sale is designed specifically for top athletic prospects: yearlings and two-year-olds based on availability … bred to be Reiners. The selection criteria is predicated on the quality of the horse (conformation and veterinary health), pedigree record, date of application receipt, consignor history and required enrollment in the NRHA, NRBC and ARBC nomination programs. Because the addition of Arabian and Half-Arabian reiners to the Las Vegas High Roller Classic Show and the West Coast Breeders Select Sale is new, a great deal of selection emphasis will be placed on the prospective consignment’s individual quality and the record of both sire and dam in the show pen and the breeding barn. Of course, the whole reason for the sale is to get sellers and buyers involved. Consequently, there are specific encouragement and incentives being offered. For the Arabian and Half-Arabians sold through the sale, 7% of the sale commission will be added directly to the following year’s ARBC Futurity prize money, providing a consistent ongoing resource designed to increase the prize money annually.
The 2015 West Coast Breeders Select Sale is scheduled for Friday, September 18th, starting at 6 pm at the South Point Event Center Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The sale is held during the High Roller Reining Classic Show, North America’s fourth largest NRHA show, which will run from September 11th through the 20th. The auction will be live stream/broadcast by www.HorseShowGlobal.com, but bidding from other locations will be handled by telephone. Interested bidders are asked to call, sign up and get a bidder number, and arrange with the auction company to bid.
